Energy Saving Tips

A diagram of a house with various icons around it

Outside Water Spickets

Make sure to turn off the water supply to all exterior water spickets. Check to make sure there are no leaks that would cause pipes to freeze.

Exterior Doors

Replace weather stripping around all exterior doors to eliminate drafts.

Windows

Make sure windows are properly sealed and cover with plastic. This will keep cold air out and warm air in.

Space Heaters

Use space heaters to warm up a chilly room instead of turning up the temperature of the whole house. Only use a space heater while the room is occupied. Never use a space heater while you are sleeping.

Ceiling Fans

Make sure to change the direction of your ceiling fans. Warm air rises and gets caught in the ceiling. Ceiling fans can blow that air back down to the living spaces.

Light Bulbs

Replace your light bulbs with LED bulbs which use less energy. These bulbs come in a variety of colors, cool, daylight, and warm.

Furnace

Make sure to get a furnace tune up and replace your furnace filter to maximize air flow.

Thermostat

Change the batteries in your thermostat to make sure you heat continues to run, especially if you will be leaving your house for an extended amount of time. If you have a programable thermostat; it is recommended to lower temperature in your house to 62 degrees during the day and 68 degrees while you are home for maximum energy savings.
